The concept of the Ciclovía started in Colombia, more specifically in Bogotá where every Sunday and holiday the main streets are blocked off to cars and reserved for cyclists and pedestrians. The idea has spread to many other countries (you can see a list here) including the U.S., and the latest Ciclovía-like event took place in San Jose. It looks like it was a blast.
